What is a stairlift?
A stairlift is an electronic device that aids the transportation of a person with mobility limitations up and down the stairs in a home. Typically, a stairlift functions on a railing system which allows for a smooth and seamless trip from one floor to the other. Stairlifts are built to move at a slow pace along the staircase to ensure complete comfort and safety during use. Through the evolution of stairlifts, they are now fitted on the stair treads rather than on the wall. On top of this, stairlifts can be fitted on curved staircases; although this can be a little more complicated to install.
The different types of stairlifts
Stairlifts are constantly evolving in order to suit as many specific cases as possible. It can be quite overwhelming when you start to look into the different types of stairlifts that are on the market overall; we offer two types of stairlifts at the moment. We can provide a free, no-obligation assessment for straight, curve stairlifts, platforms or through-floor lifts in your home or even outside if you have accessibility issues leading to your property.
We offer free – no-obligation surveys & quotations.
Key Features
To accommodate a more prominent person, not only does the 1 XL have a larger weight capacity, but it also has extra features to make this lift much more suitable. The extended seat design is now just under 17 inches (425mm) from back to front, making things much more comfortable.
Extended Arm Spacers – Icon has also widened the arms on this lift to a massive 25 inches (637mm) instead of the standard 22 inches (550mm), making things much more spacious before.
More Features
XL Velcro Seatbelt – A new seat belt style has been added to this model of stairlift where you are comfortably held in by an extra-large black belt that fastens with velcro, making things much easier for our customers.
The Foot Plate – The XL stairlift also comes with a few options for the footrest. The lift comes standard with a manual platform. However, it comes with two options; the first one is powered from the seat, so the footrest will automatically lift in unison when the lift seat is raised. The alternative is the arm-powered option; the lift will be fitted with a button under the arm, which will raise and lower the footplate.
Centralised Power Swivel – This unique feature is an excellent safety feature as it means your journey up the stairs is more balanced, and the swivel action is much more stable too. Having the swivel located on a central column instead of the usual being to one side means that it will mean you’d be turning on your natural centre of gravity rather than on your left or right side.
These stairlifts are designed to blend in with your home as much as possible. You can choose from a wide variety of upholstery options and colours. However, some options will require a longer delivery time. It is also installed on a slimline track, so it takes up as little space as possible, making your stairs fully accessible to anyone else who might need to use the stairs.
