The Icon Rafaello single-rail stairlift system is designed for use on the outside bend of curved staircases. It consists of a single tubular rail, which is less than 8cm in diameter, and provides a safe, smooth and comfortable ride up even the most complicated of staircases. It runs almost silently and the compact design allows plenty of space for other stair users. Over time our understanding of what makes a stairlift a great stairlift has grown and allowed the development of a range that can offer a stairlift solution for most homes.
Icon’s single-tube curved bespoke stairlifts are ideally suited to staircases that turn a corner or are particularly narrow. The unit runs along a single tubular rail which is designed to hug the edge of your staircase closely whilst leaving the rest of the staircase clear for other users. The rail system is the same regardless of which side of the stairs it is situated on, or if it travels over multiple floors, only the model name will change.
What is a stairlift?
A stairlift is an electronic device that aids the transportation of a person with mobility limitations up and down the stairs in a home. Typically, a stairlift functions on a railing system which allows for a smooth and seamless trip from one floor to the other. Stairlifts are built to move at a slow pace along the staircase to ensure complete comfort and safety during use.
Through the evolution of stairlifts, they are now fitted on the stair treads rather than on the wall. On top of this, stairlifts can be fitted on curved staircases; although this can be a little more complicated to install.

Features
Turn and Go for very narrow curved staircases
Turn and Go has been specially developed to help those customers who have a very narrow staircase that turns corners. Once seated your seat will turn automatically so that your back faces the stairs, not the wall or handrail, during travel and thereby move your knees away from clashes with the wall or bannister. It can also be used to help clients who have difficulty bending their knees to fit into the available star width and is compatible with the Icon Rafaello so long as there is room on the top landing to turn and park the seat.
Calling your stairlift
All Icon stairlifts come with two remote controls as standard, so you can have one upstairs and one downstairs. This means you can send your stairlift up and down the track without having to sit on it. This not only allows you to park at the top or bottom of the stairs, but it is also ideal for multi-user situations as your stairlift can be called between levels, just like an elevator.
Swivelling your Icon seat
When you arrive at the top of the stairs you will need to swivel your seat round so that you exit onto the landing safely. Handicare supplies all seats with a manual swivel function as standard. The Rafaello, Classic and the Elegance seats can have auto-swivel functions as an optional extra.
Safety as standard with Icon stairlifts
Whichever Icon stairlift you choose safety and peace of mind come as standard. All Icon stairlifts have safety sensors on the power pack and footplate; these are designed to stop the lift if it meets any obstruction. Once stopped it can only be moved away from the obstruction.
Your stairlift will also come with a seat belt as standard for additional peace of mind. All Icon stairlifts have an easily accessible key switch that allows you to disable the lift and prevent unauthorized use so do not need to worry about unsupervised children playing with your stairlift.
How about a hinged track?
P Hinged Track 150If you have a doorway or obstruction close to the base of your stairs you may need a hinged track. This means the track can be folded away from the doorway giving clear access. This option is available on all our stairlifts.
